Our week in photos

*exhale*
Whew! A nice relaxing Sunday...and time to post some photos of the busy week we had, showing our visitors some wonderful places in BC and beyond. They have gone for a few days to the Rockies, and tonight we are having my family over for a BBQ to celebrate my birthday, to show them our (almost)finished home and to thank them for all the help they gave us.

So here are a few highlights of places we have gone this week:

Greater Vancouver Zoo - As this zoo is a 5 minute drive to our house, we bought a year's membership and hope to make it a regular destination.

We hit all of the feeding times for different animals, so we got to see lots of action. Even the grizzly was feasting on fruit, and had to hold onto its huge paws for balance as it chowed down!

We were right in front of this tiger as it rose up against the fence to be fed! the trainer threw huge chunks of raw steak to the big cats, and they fought over them, which was a real treat for us who have only seen sleeping tigers and lions in other zoos!

One evening was quite chilly, so we had a cozy fire (our first!) and played Rummycub

Nick took our guests to Mount Baker, while I babysat the kiddies at home. They hiked up to "The Table" and had snowball fights. Nick even slid down the glacier!

We spent a night in Whistler, staying at a hotel with a pool and hot tubs (we anticipated cold weather, but it was actually really warm!) We first went to Cypress Lookout, Lynn Canyon suspension bridge, Shannon Falls and Brandywine Falls. In the distance we could see Black Tusk Mountain (where we got engaged) and even saw a black bear on the side of the highway!!

We explored the Whistler village (Robyn carted a sleepy Lydia in her stroller) and then spent an hour canoeing on a beautiful aqua green lake and meandered down a river as well, with all the kids in the canoes with their own mini paddles! They loved it.

Yesterday we had a fun day just relaxing, cleaning and shopping and even made some blackberry jam from the BEST blackberries found at Joe Brown Park (: It's my secret where that is.... (; It's been great to have visited so many places with friends and family this summer, but I am looking forward to school starting again and routines being established. The wonders of God's creation bring tears to our eyes, and we are so fortunate to be surrounded by such beauty, but... life goes on.
So our summer is almost over, but first....my birthday, a few more days with our visitors, one more week of holidays (even though Nick will be at school already tomorrow) and a visit from Pete and Chandra and their family to look forward to!
Have a good Sunday everyone!

Hey Lisa - just catching up on my blogs now (late Sunday evening) ... although everyone's said it I must say it too ... that photo of you two together is priceless. I LOVE it!! Looks like you all had a great time exploring. I'm awed by what you guys have done this summer. I've lived in BC most of my life and haven't seen half the places you have. I think I'll tag along with you guys next time ....:-)
