Visitors!
Well, we've been busy all week being hosts to our Dutch/Hungarian friends Bert and Noemi and their daughter Lydia! They are here for 3 and a half weeks. They arrived on Wednesday and have fit in nicely with our little family...although having two little Lydias around is sometimes confusing! Nick has already taken them all to the Othello tunnels, Harrison Hotsprings, Cascade Falls, Bridal Falls, and we've done lots of exploring Aldergrove. On Saturday Nick, Bert and Robyn went to the Abbotsford Airshow while Noemi recuperated a bit at our house (jet lag from Holland to Canada is brutal! They had no sleep for 24 hours and still have not recovered from the time difference)Today they all went to Vancouver to see the sights and tomorrow they hope to rent a car so then we can all go as a group...so far Lydia and I have had to stay home while they go sightseeing, but that's ok with me...there's still laundry and cleaning to do!
On Thursday, Bert and Noemi were determined to stay awake and go on BC time, so they wanted to keep busy. I'm not sure if cutting down trees was what they had in mind, but Nick put them to work! He borrowed a chainsaw from our brother in law and went nuts cutting down a Maple, half of our cherry, half of an apple, a few huge branches of a Pine, and a large amount of our big old Oak tree. The guys cut it all into firewood (yes, we have a wood burning fireplace! that'll be fun in the winter!!) Noemi and I cleaned up the branches and twigs, and the girls stacked the wood. It was a great group effort and the yard looks much bigger and brighter now. The plan worked for all of our benefit in the end- the visitors stayed awake, Nick got the help he needed, we had fun and hey....memories were made! It's not every day you get to cut down big BC trees! Especially if your from Holland!
Here are the visitors, hard at work: The older man is our neighbour, who came to help and made sure we didn't crush his greenhouse below the Oak tree!

Bert looks just the same as the last time he was out here! Will they still be there when we get there, then?
Wow, they are some big trees to have in your backyard. Nice!!
Chandra- they are leaving on the 31st but might spend the last week of August visiting the Rockies... maybe you'll catch them before they leave (you arrive on the 28th, right?)
We arrive the evening of the 29th...I think it'll be cutting it too close...
